The High Court has suspended the appointment of Herman Manyora as the chairperson of Nairobi Hospital as leadership wrangles raged at the premier facility.
Justice William Lopokoiyit suspended the resolutions made on June 30, 2025, appointing the University of Nairobi lecturer as the new chairperson, following a petition by two members of the hospital who moved to court, arguing that the special meeting was convened illegally.
Ms Linsley Mandirani and Ms Yasmin Aligass Mohammed said in the petition that the special meeting was done contrary to the law and in complete disregard of the procedures of the Nairobi Hospital.
“That a temporary injunction is hereby issued suspending the resolutions of the 2nd Defendant (Nairobi Hospital) board members to appoint the 1st defendant (Prof Manyora) as the chairperson of the 2nd defendant's board and restraining the 1st defendant either by himself, servants or assigns from altering the chairmanship,” Justice Lopokoiyit said.
The court directed the case to be heard on July 17, 2025.
Last week, another group had obtained a court order blocking Barcley Onyambu from representing himself as the chairperson following the boardroom coup.
Justice Nixon Sifuna had also blocked a two-day retreat in Naivasha, chaired by Dr Onyambu.
Previous chairman, Chris Bichage was removed in a similar way in March this year and was replaced by Dr Onyambu.
Dr Bichage also challenged his removal arguing that it not only undermines the independence and operational integrity of the hospital, but also jeopardises the interests of its members and the subscribers of the institution.
The camp led by Prof Manyora had sought a court order restraining Dr Onyambu from engaging in any conduct that undermined or interfered with directions and resolutions issued by the board he chaired after being appointed the new chairperson.
